jana swec

Born February 20th 1978 in Berkeley, California, Jana Swec has expressed herself through painting, music, & drama. In 1995 she joined the band Flexx who sadly parted ways in 1996. She moved to New York City and got her BFA (2001) at the School of Visual Arts. She relocated to Austin TX, later that year and joined the art group SODALITAS, and currently sings with the band Sonic Uke, which shows locally in Austin.

"Being a part of SODALITAS has been a lesson in how I make and view artwork. I've always enjoyed watching others approach a concept: where they begin, and where they go next. Working closely with others forces me to understand a different point of view, and sometimes it means I must change my approach. I become incredibly vulnerable, and must choose to defend my ideas, or see things in new ways."
